Natural fibresrugs.
Natural fibre rugs are woven from plant fibres such as jute, sisal and seagrass. They bring texture and an earthy, neutral calm to a room, and layer well under a patterned rug.
i.The fibres
Jute is the softest of the three, with a warm golden colour and a chunky weave. Sisal is tougher and more tightly woven, a good choice for areas that see more traffic. Seagrass is smooth, slightly waxy and naturally resistant to staining.
ii.Where they belong
Living rooms, studies, sunrooms and as a base layer under a smaller wool rug. They are best kept away from damp: water can stain plant fibres and make them brittle, so avoid bathrooms and wet entries.
iii.Looking after them
Vacuum often, since grit settles into the weave. Blot spills quickly and dry the area. Avoid wet cleaning; use a professional who knows natural fibres.

Questions
Natural fibres, asked
Jute is fairly soft; sisal and seagrass are firmer and more textured. They are more about texture and look than plush comfort.
